I just discovered your site, and am excited to watch it grow. I am a wildcrafter that has been active for many years, although I am only 30. I learned from some of the best in cluding my great-grandfather who survived until I was 16 and he 90+. I suffer from severe rhuematoid arthritis, and believe that several plants have kept me mobile for 21 years. Lately however, I have had set-backs and am hoping to step-up treatment with some new plants, but am not sure what is next. I have done much research and am willing to help your site anyway I can. You may already know that "New Riders of the Purple Sage" were named after the Zane Grey novel, "Riders of the Purple Sage." I grew up in a house with hardly any books, but this was one we had. Just discovered your web site and vety good it is. Have been 'into' herbs now for about a year as a serious amateur and the 40th specimen is growing well. Looking at expanding in a more serious way in the future regarding medical herbs and developing a separate herb bed for just these varieties. Excellent website. Very useful. Curious to know why you state that black cohosh should not be taken where "you or anyone in your family" has a history of breast cancer. The German (conventional as well as alternative) doctors prescribe Remifemin (a German pharmaceutical preparation of black cohosh/cimicifuga racemosa) precisely for such women. Remifemin has been used in Germany for many years wherever severe menopausal problems arise in women with a breast cancer history. Repeated trials have shown that it reduces rather than increases recurrence. HRT is strongly contra-indicated in such cases. [email protected]
